This Friday the 28th of March is the 57th edition of E3 Harelbeke. It’s a butt kicker with 12 notable hills and a fair amount of cobbles. All the big hitters will be there as they use it for preparation for Gent-Wevelgem (March 30) and Flanders (April 6). Tom Boonen has the most wins since its inception with five, which includes four straight from 2004-2007. Fabian Cancellara has three to his name with a win last year and two straight in 2010 and 2011. Look for Peter Sagan to make his mark this year, too–he finished second last year more than one minute down and 14th in 2012.

On paper it looks like BMC may have the strongest squad with the likes of Thor Hushovd, Daniel Oss, Taylor Phinney, Michael Schaer and Manuel Quinziato, but Omega Pharma Quick Step brings Tom Boonen, Niki Terpstra (winner of today’s Dwars Door Vlaanderen) and Zdenek Stybar. Trek Factory will of course have Fabian Cancellara as their leader with notables like Stijn Devolder and Gregory Rast at his disposal. And we can’t forget Team Sky with Edvald Boassen Hagen, Bernhard Eisel, Geraint Thomas and Ian Stannard. Should be a good one leading into Gent-Wevelgem, which rolls out this Sunday.
