Omega-Pharma Quick-Step have put their faith in Poland’s Michal Kwiatkowski for Wednesday’s Fleche Wallonne race. Kwiatkowski finished fifth in the 199.5km race last year and matched that position at Sunday’s Amstel Gold Race. Having ended the Cobbled Classics on a high with Niki Terpstra’s victory at Paris-Roubaix, Omega-Pharma have made the in-form 23-year-old their sole leader.

“As for our selection, we once again have a good team at the start. We changed a few elements if you compare it to Amstel where we have more climbers,” said sports director Davide Bramati on the Omega-Pharma team website. “Our road captain is Michal Kwiatkowski as he showed his race fitness with his top five finish at Amstel Gold Race. He was also fifth at this race in 2013. We will try to do something good again this year and be there for the finale in the second of the three Ardennes Classics.”

Kwiatkowski has already won six races this season, including last month’s Strade Bianche where he outsprinted Peter Sagan, and finished second to Alberto Contador in the Tour of the Basque Country, which finished 10 days ago. The Pole was third in the best young rider category at last year’s Tour de France, where he finished 11th.
