An accomplished time trial rider with national and European U23 TT championships to his credit as well as a Giro TT win in 2013 over Sir Bradley Wiggins, Dowsett has the pedigree to set an hour record Wiggins, Martin and Cancellara will be truly challenged to best, assuming of course those riders do make record attempts.
Dowsett currently rides with the Spanish team, Movistar and his record attempt has been in partnership with the team and its technical suppliers. Canyon and Endura have teamed up to provide the bike and clothing, while Dowsett has been logging hours on the track and in the wind tunnel. Endura has partnered with Simon Smart of Drag2Zero, carrying out extensive work at the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 wind tunnel utilizing the facility’s high tech equipment to maximize aerodynamic efficiency. Endura is currently working on a specific suit, optimized for the record attempt.
In this new age of a revitalized hour record Dowsett’s attempt has been dubbed ‘The Perfect Hour’ and a media blitz has been organized to promote the event, complete with hashtags – #perfecthour #ucihourrecord. For Dowsett the attempt is about more than putting his name in the record books, suffering from haemophilia, Alex is a patron of the haemophilia charity LittleBleeders.com and is using the attempt to inspire and fundraise for the charity.
