It wasn’t so long ago that hardly any brands offered a gravel bike. Now, seemingly every brand makes one, and it means there are more great options than ever at every price point. Orbea’s take on gravel, the Terra, is heavily road inspired and comes in at an enticing price.

The Details
The Terra M30-D features OMP (Orbea Monocoque Performance) carbon, a blend of high-modulus and high-strength fibers optimized for the best stiffness-to-weight ratio. By using bladder molding, Orbea ensures a stronger frame in critical areas like the bottom bracket, while allowing minimal materials to be used. Orbea also utilizes something it calls Dynamic Structure—essentially, the shaping of the tubes and the carbon layup—to create a smoother-riding frame meant for gravel, without needing to add heavy elastomers.

With room for up to 700x40c tires, the Terra doesn’t set records on tire clearance, but it offers enough room for most gravel courses out there. And with the option for mudguards, this bike is also ready to tackle winter riding and training.

For $2,999, Orbea has assembled an enticing build, complete with Shimano GRX 2x with 30/46 chainrings and an 11–34 cassette, providing all the range necessary for big climbs. Our size medium weighed in at 17.8 pounds (8.1 kilograms) without pedals or cages, which we’re quite happy with for a gravel bike equipped with 38c tires in this price range.

Orbea offers one of the most personalized buying experiences you can get short of purchasing a frame and building it up from scratch. For many components on this bike, there is an option to choose alternatives through Orbea’s MYO program. Whether it’s upgrading the wheels or handlebars, or picking a different range option for your cassette, you’re hard pressed to get this level of control over your bike build anywhere else.

The Ride
The Terra is through and through a roadie’s gravel bike. Though its geometry is more relaxed than a road bike, it still provides a very responsive ride, and we could see this bike doing double duty as a road bike for many riders. With road tires mounted, you might not even realize this is primarily a gravel bike.
