The Tour de France is of course the most iconic cycling race in the world. But it is also one of the biggest annual showcases of new cycling gear. After being postponed for a couple months, the Tour gets underway Saturday, August 29, and we finally get to see some of the gear that brands have been waiting to share.
Italian performance eyewear brand KOO has two new models that will be worn by Trek-Segafredo at the Tour and La Course, the women’s one-day race in Nice on August 29. The first model, Spectro, features a one-piece Zeiss lens with large coverage. Four vents on the outside provide ample venting to reduce fogging. And an adjustable nose piece helps dial in fit. It is available in five frame/lens color combinations, weighs 37 grams and costs $179.
In contrast to the angular look of the Spectro, the Demos, another new single-lens model, has a more rounded frame. This model also puts a focus on venting and has an adjustable nose piece. It is available in four frame colors and seven frame/lens combinations. It weighs 36 grams and costs $159.
Scicon also has two new models, the Aeroshade and Aerowing, which will be worn by UAE Team Emirates, NTT Pro Cycling and Israel Start-Up Nation at the Tour de France. The Aeroshade features Scicon’s Horizon Adapt mechanism, which is a height-adjustable nose pad that allows you to raise or lower the nose pad to fit your preferred riding position. And a raised top frame increases field of view over previous models. There are three frame sizes and six lens options available, and a pair costs $225.
Scicon sponsored athletes will also be wearing a new model called Aerowing at the Tour. It features a large, rimless cylindrical shield along with a vented brow that increases airflow to reduce fogging. With the ability to replace nose pads and adjust the temple arms, the Aerowing has a lot of adjustability to dial in the fit. Like the Aeroshade, there are three frame colors and six lens options available for the Aerowing. It costs $215.
