We reached out to North American Handmade Bike Show exhibitors once the popular show was rescheduled to August to offer up our digital channels to display their latest builds. All of these bikes and builders will also be featured in a 36-page special section in the May 2020 issue of Peloton Magazine.
Our first builder is Chad Corvid of Boulder, Colorado. Chad has been building bikes since 2004 when he built bikes mostly for friends. In 2017, Chad left his engineering job, attended UBI (United Bicycle Institute) and spent a year working for DEAN/Merlin before heading out on his own. He works out of a small shop adjacent to his Boulder home. Chad has been to NAHBS four times, twice as an attendee and in 2019 he was a finalist in the “Best New Builder” category.
“The GRT (grit), is our ultra versatile, go anywhere, gravel bike. Compatible with 1x and 2x drivetrains, 700c or 27.5″ wheels, and available with optional rack, fender and anywhere mounts. I originally selected this build for NAHBS because it highlights the benefits of custom. The owner is 5ft tall with relatively short legs for her height. She wanted a gravel/touring bike for some upcoming tours, one of which occurs during the rescheduled August show. The build is a mix of GRX800, GRX600 and Ultegra. GRX600 cranks because they are available in 165mm; Ultegra shifters because they come in a ‘small hands’ version. We selected 650b wheels to eliminate toe overlap without slackening the steering angle excessively. The rest of the build includes: PRO bar, stem and post; Bombtrack fork; Brooks saddle and bar tape; Cane Creek headset; Astral Wanderlust wheels with Astal hubs manufactured by White Industries; Panaracer tires.”
“Our newest model, the MAP, was slated to make its debut at the 2020 North American Handmade Bicycle Show in March. MAP (More Adventure Please) is our light and fast adventure bike. Designed for a 100-120mm suspension corrected fork, up to 29×2.6″ tires, a dropper seatpost, and accessory mounts galore, the MAP is the perfect tool for tackling the most challenging adventure races. This build features: Shimano GRX drivetrain and brakes; Whisky bar, and carbon adventure fork; Thomson stem and dropper; White Industries headset, bottom bracket and cranks; White Industries hubs laced to Astral Outback rims rolling on Panaracer rubber. Custom bags by JPaks are the cherry on top of an already perfect build.”
