The 2013 season saw a significant expansion of the popular Red Hook Criterium franchise with the introduction of a four-race, three city Championship Series. Beginning in its namesake Brooklyn neighborhood in March, the RHC christened a new venue at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in June. Late summer found the race on Spanish soil for the first time with a challenging race in Barcelona.
The series wrapped up October 12 with the fourth edition of the Red Hook Crit Milano. Double-Brooklyn winner, Neil Bezdek, led the series standings going into the finale, while a host of RHC regulars looked to dethrone the master of the fixed gear criterium.
“After three thrilling years, Milano has established itself as the Red Hook Crit’s second home,” said race organizer, David Trimble. “We are proud to have the opportunity to put on an exciting show year after year for the residents of Milano and the greater Italian cycling community.”
After a hard-fought race, it was first-time winner Eduard Grosu who took the top honors in a sprint against American stalwarts Evan Murphy and Bezdek, who secured his overall championship title with his latest podium result. Mash SF took the team award.
