Custom builders traditionally cut their teeth in steel and move to carbon, kicking and screaming. It would be easy to assume Bob Parlee, founder of Parlee Cycles, followed this same path. He did not. Coming from the boat industry Parlee recognized carbon was the ideal material for bicycles and founded his cycling company with this material over a decade ago. He has stayed true to his belief that performance should never be compromised for style and his bikes manifest this clean, traditional, and beautiful.
While completely custom bikes, from ride feel to geometry to paint, may be what Parlee is best known for, the Parlee Z5i is a stock platform that delivers all the performance of Parlee custom without the wait. Of course stock really doesnt describe the Z5i. Parlees Flex-Fit program six regular sizes, then a tall version of each with 2.5cm more head tube delivers 12 distinct fits. Even riders that think they need custom geometries can find their perfect fit with the Z5i. The compact geometry uses a short wheelbase and tight chain stays for a very racey feel.
The Z5i uses Parlee uni-directional SL tubing, the lightest tubing they make and routes all cables, from mechanical to electronic, internally. Combined with the clean, straightforward tube shapes, the internal routing helps deliver a beautiful, traditional package. The light weight tubing and Parlee craftsmanship results in a frame less than 1000grams even in the largest sizes.
Complete builds with ENVE forks are available, from SRAM Force at $5600 to Campagnolo Record at $7300 with Dura Ace and Red builds in between.
