Team Type 1-Sanofi has been invited to two of the Ardennes Classics in April, Fleche-Wallonne which is held on Wednesday the 18th and then on Sunday the 22nd at Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Both races are run by the Amaury Sport Organisation, the same group that puts on the Tour de France. Vassili Davidenko, General Manager of Team Type 1-Sanofi, expressed the team’s excitement about the news.
“Yesterday the Tour of Poland, today Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. You can’t imagine how thrilled we are, a Pro Continental team from the US, to be headed to these races. With Sasha Serebryakov last week in Belgium we showed how strong we are in the sprints, and with Julien El Fares at Haut Var the week before we showed how strong we are in the hills,” said Davidenko.
Phil Southerland, CEO and founder Team Type 1-Sanofi, went further speaking about the team’s mission and how such exposure can help those with diabetes.
Southerland said, “Last weekend in Belgium we met a 10 year old girl with diabetes at the start of Sundays race in Kuurne. Getting this invitation to these two Ardennes Classics in April means we can go back to Belgium and race, and also meet and inspire more people with diabetes to take control of their lives and manage their disease. This is the best part of our job.”
