I was one of those people, even before I got into riding seriously, that would wake up at 5:00am and watch the Tour on Versus because I loved it all: The drama, the over-exaggerated story telling, the almost senseless but beautiful climbs, the helicopter shots of castles and mountains and people drinking wine and yelling at nameless riders. And, the still amazing display of athleticism and courage.
The Tour de France is magic.
When I heard Cannondale wanted to run a contest sending a peloton reader and Cannondale fan to the Tour de France for five-days as an intern with Team Liquigas Cannondale I remained calm. Then I heard they would also return home with a brand new team bike. Not as calm. Inside, I was humbled and thankful. peloton is a new magazine and part of a new media company and I was genuinely proud that Cannondale offered us a chance to present this dream trip to our readers. Its the greatest contest I have ever been a part of.
The Tour moves on two-wheels with a grace and rhythm thats almost impossible to describe. It creates smiles and cheers and elevated heart rates and parties and food and picnics and allows people to forget about work and money and climb hills, drink, eat and yell.
Its all about bicycles and its beautiful.
