As the classics season leaves the cobblestones behind and heads to the Ardennes hills, peloton takes a look back at the past ten years of the Amstel Gold Race. Marked by a succession of short, often extremely steep hills, the Amstel Gold Race is typically won by a power rider rather than a pure climber. The Ardennes classics are nonetheless when many grand tour riders begin to test their form. While they may hide and tune up in smaller stage races, the month of April is a time for the big names of the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France to show their rivals their preparations are on course.
